America's Dreyfus Affair
by DCDave

Poor Vincent Foster is long in his grave,
And few people seem to care,
So how could anyone refer to his death
As "America's Dreyfus Affair?"

It belongs to the same category of crime,
And here is the reason why:
Our leadership's staked its entire reputation
On a squalid and transparent lie.

Forgery played a role in each case
And in the latter was quickly exposed,
But with more thoroughgoing control of the press
It wasn't so widely disclosed.

So now we can note as the century winds down
A familiar historical theme:
The despots can only hold onto their power
If ignorance reigns supreme.
