Kearny and Stevens at Chantilly
by DCDave

In stone cut from the peaceful land
Tributes to two generals stand,
Where they in a past century
Suffered the indignity
Of being prematurely sent
Up to heaven's regiment.

The highest and the lowest died
In that wrenching fratricide.
Now the gentle oak leaves' rustle's
Barely heard above the bustle
Of the roadways that surround
This small patch of hallowed ground.
